Slideshows & Photo Galleries: Better, Faster, and Mobile Friendly

Did you know that over 10% of your website traffic visits from a mobile device? We were ahead of the curve when we introduced automatic mobile versions of your websites, and today, we're taking things a step further by upgrading your slideshows and photo galleries for mobile optimized viewing and interaction. 

Now, when people are viewing photo galleries or slideshows from a mobile device, the photos open full screen and allow native touch and swipe gestures. This works extremely well not only on iPhones and iPads, but the wide range of Android devices as well. 

Check it out for yourself. Just click a photo in the gallery below from your smartphone or tablet to see these updates in action. 
You'll also notice the following improvements when viewing photo galleries from a computer:
  • Slides switch faster from one to the next
  • You can use your keyboard arrow keys to change slides
In addition, we added two new features to slideshows that we think you'll like:
  • Option to hide the slideshows controls (play/stop/arrows) that show on mouseover
  • Choose whether to start the slideshow on the first slide or a random slide
Over the past many months, we've also been diligently working on the vast improvements to our themes. We want to thank everyone who's been patiently waiting for these updates. While the release has taken us longer than anticipated, the improvements are substantial and enable much more professional, powerful looking websites. 

We're excited to get these updates into your hands, and it should be just a few more weeks before we have some major news to announce on this front. Stay tuned!

Hmm, we're sorry to hear that. We tested on Andriod successfully, but given the wide range of devices and OS versions, it may not work on all of them. Please let us know the model name and number of your phone, along with the OS version you're running by emailing support@weebly.com so we can investigate further.

What happened to the ability to size the slide shows? I was able to size mine before (Small, Medium, Large), but now it seems that this feature has disappeared. The slide shows are now too large.

It would be nice to be able to choose the size for your slide shows as most pictures are different sizes which makes the slide shows to be HUGE. Picture Collages would be ideal too =)

You can change the size of slide shows by placing them in a multiple column. (They automatically adjust to fit in the column.) Hope this helps!

Hi, please make this available to other phone as well. Not everyone has iPhone or Android. I, myself like other people, use Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7.5 and whenever I tap on the picture it doesn't show me anything.

There are a lot of third-party how-to things you can look up. I added our floating Social Media buttons by Googling, 'Add Social Media Buttons to Weebly Site', and it walked you through it, it's pretty simple.

Although you're right, I would love to have that be a Weebly plug-in, because when I finish at my site this year, I'll have to teach them how to alter it, which'll take a while.

What about captions for photo galleries?
I'd like for the photo gallery element to have captions for the thumbnails and the option to link the thumbnail picture to another page on the site (like the normal photo element) and not just to the full sized version of the image.

I love Weebly and this improvement would mean a lot for my site. Is there any chance of this happening?

Thanks Weebly this is really cute but uh... When are you rolling out the new templates and features?? I'm getting to the point where I find myself changing codes or buying third party templates and that, to me, defeats the whole purpose of Weebly to begin with. Not to mention that this update in features was was down the bottom of the list of what everyone actually voted for.

I must say - Too Little Too Late.

The cosmetics updates are nice-to-have but please understand, your paid (and free) customers use Weebly not only to build a good looking site but also to have a functional site. With your last few (and far in-between) releases, you are largely being perceived to be ignoring (or incompetent?) any enhancements towards improving website functionality. In case you have lost track, take a look below;
- your last functional modification was mid December (more than 3 months ago)
- One prior to that was in the month of October (about 6 months ago)

Wonder if you have given up on your passion, which was being supported by paid customers, of building a 'different' platform and happy being just another surviving-free-website-builder.

I have been extremely patient and waiting just because i too love Weebly like many others do.

You had asked your customers to suggest and vote for features. Here is what you have delivered over last few months and votes for each released feature;
Font choices - 59 votes
Slideshow option - 25 votes
Mobile version - 25 votes
Multiple editors - 16 votes.

There are a many with more than 1000 votes.

I truly appreciate that you are a small team and the work your team has been doing but then growth oriented start-ups don't make that excuse, do they?

I'm excited!
I mean, the updates do take time, and that really did not fly well with me since I pay for Weebly's services. Then I discovered that their team is really small, plus compared to the other WYSIWYG builders out there, Weebly is top of the line.

Concerning updates, themes are easy to customize, I think that there are other features that might take precedence over themes. Still, I have no problem in doing tutorials on how to update your templates in the meantime.

I re-activated my old blog, jaylacreates.weebly.com so that anyone who has questions can feel free to ask there. I will help out the best way that I can with tuts and free themes until the Weebsters get the theme ball rolling.

Until then, keep it coming Weebly!

Guys, this is too little too late. 3 months ago you published a blog post that had nothing to do with development and after an entire quarter, this is all you have to show us. Now you ask us to wait just a few more weeks for new themes. You said that 6 months ago. I have two weebly pro accounts but other web editors are getting way ahead of you at this point. Wordpress is getting easier every day and Wix has just released an incredible update. Keep pace guys, or I will be forced to move on.

Slide shows allows you to watch photos in a sequence and photo galleries allows to differentiate pics. You can create many folder according to categories.

pls. we need new themes! i've been thinking of going pro but the themes suck... and pls. let us have this option to do a tag or labels into cloud as it takes so much space in list form. also a way to put in audio from external source like sound cloud. weebly is way behind for some reason and takes months for updates.

ATTENTION WEEBLY STAFF:
Concerning galleries and slideshows, is there a way to create headers that are slideshows (without the extra coding needed to accomplish that :) )?

I tested out these new updates and cropped a few images to header-size and they were automatically re-sized, essentially loosing the mystique of a header, this is even after removing the padding from the content area.

Since the updates are surrounding this aspect of the interface, I was hoping may be some growth in that department?

I have been steering people toward weebly for over 4 years now. I have zero html coding skills which makes weebly ideal for people like me. My clients are now aksing me to switch to WordPress because of the ability to use various fonts on a page, slideshows, templates and tables which make the sites look professional. I want to stay with Weebly as a paying customer, but please provide more templates, tables and add the ability to insert tables. You did great with the slideshows, but those that have grown with weebly would like to see it continue to grow a little faster for the paying customers.

We spent over $80k developing drupal and wordpress sites, and dumped everything for weebly, which we have 42 sites on now. It only took us 40 days. Good luck with your wordpress venture.

I think you should look at what you have in front of you! Some of us designers here have knowledge about weebly and I think you should let us try to make templates. Maybe we can make them and you test them to make sure all is well and good and we go from there. People can either buy them or rent them, maybe? I made a quick example and think we should try to round up some designers from around the world and see if we can create some designs that maybe Weebly buys (or at least gives credit) for their themes? I would love to hear your feedback and anyone else that would like to join in on the topic. Thanks Jose

I wish you would include more options for the aspect ratio advanced feature within the slideshow, then we could place rotating banners which are closer to a 24/5 ratio, rather the options you offer.

How come there are posts from almost a month ago and I received the upgrade today, I'm a Pro user, I edited on weebly yesterday and today and it was today that I was notified about updates... Is it because I'm using your spanish version?

Not working properly on my iPad 2 or Samsung Galaxy 2. Slide show works OK but when I select any individual picture the picture drops half off the bottom of the screen. When I chose a page with photo gallery the main page shows OK but when i select a picture it too drops half off the bottom of the screen. Can not us my iPad or phone to show my site. Very dissapointed.
Also when can we have the top menu show but not be selectable!!!

Is there a way to make folder that hold photos in them (albums)? or can you upload on only one page all your pictures?

I need to put some information for each image, how can I add, title or description for each image in the slideshow? Exist this option or it is posible add it in future?
