Beta Test the Awesome New Header Image Features

We've been very busy lately creating a set of features to help you customize your website header images. Most themes have a header image, or banner, at the top of the page. Now, you can easily replace this default image with one of your own, or one from our gallery. You can also add text into the image and all sorts of cool effects. To top it off, each page of your site can have its own header image. These features are truly awesome and we think you're going to love them!

Before we release these features live on weebly.com, we want to get them fully tested by those interested to make sure they are perfect.

Here's how to check out the new features:

Login to our special "beta" version of Weebly, located at http://beta.weebly.com
Hover your mouse over your website's header image and and click on the "Edit Image" button you'll see appear
Have fun creating your header image masterpieces
Give us your suggestions, feedback, and bug reports through http://betafeedback.weebly.com

I'm soo mad, I made some really cool header images, and I forgot I went back to the regular Weebly, and I published under that, and my headers are boring again. Uggg, Ill go back some time to fix it.Uhhh.

If you log back into http://beta.weebly.com, you should see that the header images you created are still there, and you can republish your site to get rid of the old, boring one :-)

Great enhancement! I have a question about the text box. Is it possible to click and drag the text box around to place it anywhere on the header image? If so, I am having trouble.

Thanks! The trick to moving text is to click it and move it in one motion, as opposed to clicking, releasing, and then trying to move it. We're going to make this a little easier to do. Thanks for the feedback.

Just click outside the text box to something else. Then click your text box and drag (without pausing when clicking.)

** Make sure you click far enough outside of the box so as to not hit the delete box!

I did the changes on my headers for every page. Really, it is way too cool and this is something that my co-photobloggers would want to have on their sites. But it left me questioning if it won't affect the loading time of the pages. My visitors would sometimes leave me a message that they get at times page loading problems.

You guys done a great job. I would like to challenge you to take a step further by introducing embedded swf pictures or movie so we can just click and go to one page to another or from one site to another. This can be a banner like this site www.qmb.co.nz.

The new header feature is incredible!

There were some integration issues with the remainder of the site.

For example when I changed the paragraph title is doesn't publish with the changes.

But when I log in it looks the way I designed it!

Fantastic feature. Love these sort of image editing features & your new one compares, more than favourably with others that are available. It is soooo easy to use. too.

Thought it was being installed this morning when I logged into my Weebly site & there was a notice saying that Weebly was installing some wonderful ew stuff into my browser. Got all excited. LOL.

Same issue as Rahim after creating custom header. Changes to title and paragraph text look correct in editor mode, but when published are default for the theme.

Tried resetting and applying changes again and using custom css but neither showed correct formatting when published.

I'm having trouble uploading a PNG file onto your new heading uploader. It doesn't detect transparency or whatsoever on my designs whenever I upload it. So if you could fix the problem Weebly. That would be great!

This is nice, but I was honestly expecting something more. Some of the other sites allow for rotating hyperlinked banners, and that is what our organization was hoping would come this summer. While the tools are nice, graphics programs can implement these types of edits. However, graphics programs cannot allow me to have banners introducing our organization's programs and services the way I was hoping Weebly would go. Over all, good stuff though.

Not so hot. This is beta ? then why did it show up in my regular account? I looked at afterwards things got screwy and was pretty angry at you for while because I got blank html/css, and it looked like my website got wiped out. Only after a nail betting close and login back in did it seem to be normal. Makes me very nervous about anything you add now. There should be some way of locking in a reset to previous state in case what you guys really screws things up.

This is great! It would be even better if it were coded with a bit of javascript so I could add more than one image and have it rotate between them. Or, if I could drop a swf in there. Keep up the great work!

Its a great feature BUT
I made my banner bigger than the default and it used to work fine with old way.

Now Half of my banner has this black fade on it. Looks really bad.

QUESTION

ok, so when i first started trying out the new header update, i was totally excited. still am, don't get me wrong.

but i've noticed that transparencies don't seem to register anymore. for me at least, that's a problem. most of my banners look best when i can utilize transparencies.

is there something that needs to be turned on, or somehow that i can work around that without having to redo my banners?

Hello! I'm sure you know this, but changing a design option, such as the color of paragraph text, negates any changes you have made to the header image. That is, the header image reverts to the default if you change a design option.

Also, one suggestion is to include the option to center text.

Nice new features!!! It took a few tricks for me to figure out how to get rid of the Page Header text that I originally had with the design. Also, another trick was to create one page header design that I liked, the add that to copy to EVERY page in order to keep the design features (font, size, etc.) and THEN go to each individual page to update the heading text for that page.

REQUEST: Can you please allow us to change the font & size of the page tabs??? Some older clients have commented that they are hard to read being so small and in white. Am I missing something here? Thank you!!!

This is awesome, though there is one bug that I am reporting where it should be, and I will also say it here. When I upload GIF images, the animations won't work. They have worked on other sites before the new system for headers, but it isn't working now on another site. Please fix it. But good job on this, anyways. It is a very good idea. P.S. The site I am working on is for a friend of mine.

unfortunately, i'm one (of many?) people who has an accent on their name. i can't write my special s in lithuanian: it looks like this - Š. But, it does not work in these banners.

PLEASE please fix this - otherwise it is quite awesome.

(i'm sure a million other people out there are struggling with this, too.)

I've always liked weebly. It's always been an easy interface to use and there's always been a great range of templates. But the header image has been something that frustrated me and I'm glad to see this change.

I logged into beta (using link provided by Weebly) followed the instructions (to the letter) I did not have the new Image Perfect editing on my Weebly website.

May I ask why. I may be helpful if you could start one step before the first step on this page. I may be missing the orginal steps.

What about the issue with uploading a PNG file as Derrick mentioned in his 21 July post? It seems to upload the file then site there with the scrolling "Loading" banner. I like the tool.

If you want a transparant background for your header, try this hack. In the HTML, change the class name to be just "header" (instead of "weebly-header":

<div class="header"></div>

do the same in the CSS. This is how mine looks:

.header {
background:transparent url(logo.png) no-repeat center top;
float:left;
width:960px;
height:150px;
background-color: transparent;
}

Then delete the image from the beta page of course.

I am trying to put a different header on each page. It will let me have a different one on the first page and then the same one on every other page no matter what I do.
