Announcing the Design Contest Winners!

We're proud to announce the cash prize winners of the Weebly Design Contest. The competition was strong with over 2,000 themes submitted. Our expert judging panel narrowed down the selection to their top 10 favorites, and then the Weebly users voted to determine the top 3 prize winners. There were so many outstanding designs contributed, and we want to thank everyone who participated and voted!

Without further ado, the winners are:

1st Place - In Touch with Nature

Prize: $10,000

2nd Place - Low Lights

Prize: $2,000
Designer: Evaldas Vaitkus

3rd Place - Clean, Crisp, & Structured

Prize: $1,000

well, I didn't enter this, since it was too late to put it in, and secondly, I developed it for our own purposes, so I didn't think it was such a big whoop. For the most part, I don't like big pictures in the header. A slim banner works a lot better I think. Less distraction. Everyone on my site likes it too, so there I have the vote of 180 of some of the best artists in the world .....

Great work on all the players' parts... Weebly folk, designers and all. I'm especially thrilled with the clean and structured one as it has a different formatting and is very original. Bravo Weebly and winners! Can't wait to play with the new designs.

I liked the third design most as it has high impact, clean lines, and easy on the eyes. Good to have news snippets, main story taster, and the possible highlighting of other stories on the home page. Can see the potential for a rotating carousel of featured content. Good work!

I especially like the text in the banner on "In touch with nature". I think it makes it less plain. A note to those who dislike large header images: you can change the dimensions of the banner by editing the CSS in the theme editor, then upload a banner with the new dimensions. Just do a little reading on CSS if you aren't familiar with it.

It's hard to believe everyone loved the winners. They're all well done and far better than most of the submissions. But I'd hoped the contest would result in some less-regimented layouts. I guess there's only so much Weebly can do at this time to rewrite the code to allow greater freedom.

Some great themes, but I still feel that there are too few dark themes available.
