BETA: Theme gallery and Design settings

We're finally ready to test out some new features we've been working on for a long time: a complete redesign of the "Designs" tab.

Since this is such a large feature and there might be some bugs, we're releasing it to beta.weebly.com only for now, so feel free to log-in and check it out.

What's new?

Theme Gallery

Instead of the theme categories being shown in the left bar, there's now an "All Themes" option. When you click on this button, you can browse themes in a larger, expanded gallery format. You can rate themes, view similar themes, and sort by Most Popular or Most Recent.

Theme Options

Right above the "All Themes" link is a "Design Options" button. When you click here, you can edit various design options of your theme, like font, color, and font size for your site title, paragraph title, paragraph text, and links.

Favorites

The first button, "Favorites," is a list of your favorite themes and most popular Weebly themes. Before you choose any of your favorites, we've added ours to the list to get you started. And any time you see a theme thumbnail, you can click on the star to favorite it.

These have been our most requested features for a long time, and we're really excited to be able to show you a preview.

If you're interested in testing these new features, go to beta.weebly.com. As you may encounter some bugs, please email beta@weebly.com with any issues you run into.

As always, we really appreciate your support, and we're excited to be testing these features now, so we can release them to everybody soon!

Nice. I tried it out and I think it works perfectly. I especially like the fact I don't have to change the fonts in CSS anymore,unless I want a custom font.

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Great job, Weebly! The new layout is going to make it so much easier to globally change fonts, font sizes and colours without having to mess around with the CSS.

I just tested the beta site, and it worked fine except for hovering over new themes. The previews did not show. I also already miss somewhere to see which "Current Theme" I am working on and tweaking. The pending thumbnail for custom themes and the possibility to import themes gives great promises. The few options to change fonts and sizes and colors are a start to something great (I hope) I see a direction to soon support CSS classes through the UI. Having the possibilities to give different paragraphs etc. different values, like background color, .... should really boost design possibilities. I see a future with Weebly CSS multi-class PRO features. The ecosystem for new designs seem to be ripe. This is great. I shall go BETA.

Just a heads up...I only changed the color of my header font and published it with the beta program. I then found that all of my text links in the paragraphs on all of my site reverted back to the home page instead of the page they were suppose to link to!

See the previous post of a new problem with beta...I just went back and logged into the regular or old weebly editor and republished my site again from their and all of my links are now correct. WOW...I thought I had a lot of repairing to do. Hope this helps...BEWARE

Hey, i like this feature, even if it wasnt that difficult to just change it in the CSS. :P

But when you preview a theme and then click on "cancel", you will be forwarded to weeblys frontpage instead of the theme select page.
Pretty annoying since it takes a while to go out and in to the editor mode all the time.

Great stuff, but if I use the beta and publish my website, all my links stop working, so unfortunately I have to use the normal Weebly. Looking forward to when that issue is fixed though.

i think it would be great if we were able to duplicate any page of our site to another location of our site with one button called duplicate or to be able to duplicate a link the same wauy because so many times in the site we want to refer to the same idea again because its needed. also it would be great if we can have more space for video upload like 500 meg instead of 100 and an auto start button choice on video would be great. also if we can have the option to place buttons around the themes not just inside it would be great. a easy flash auto site hd look would be great as a theme too. you guys are great i am very happy to have you

I love this feature, however, it would be better if we could customize the colors of a theme individually. For example, we could change the menu button colors. I know this may be tough... Another idea: We could submit our own themes and people could browse through those!! I'm sure lots of people have already requested that, though.

I agree with you Auten! For others who do not know HTML or CSS it is really hard to change background colors, text etc. I know HTML and CSS but it would be soooo difficult if you didn't.

Wow! I think that it rally an improvment that we were looking for. I ued to have some much difficulties to change the type setting style and customize the website. Now we have a wonderful tool to do ti fast and easely. I tried it and it seems to work well!

Nice feature, easy to figure out. My only concern is, my site does not match up between weebly.com and beta.weebly. If I were to purchase the domain, would it matter under which weebly url I used?

Hi Weebly - just wanted to say that I have been designing websites since 1996, and discovering weebly a year ago has rejuvenated my interest and enjoyment in creating sites for clients - I hate coding with a passion, and was waiting for someone to invent a drag and drop web editor. I tutor people in using Weebly (although most people need no help) here in the UK, and even technophobes like it. It's great that you constantly strive to do better and add new features (my top request is to be able to copy and past elements and pages!). I agree with those who say that Weebly Pro is amazing value.

I fully support Weebly and I myself am a pro user.
However I feel that the templates we have at present look very old and dated and nothing at all special. In fact many look similar to designs of 5 years ago.
With new companies now offering a similar service to Weebly all the time such as Vi***i and offering many very nice and modern templates, some with 3 column designs also, I'm worried that if Weebly don't revise the template listings they could lose out.

Don't get me wrong Weebly are still by far the best in my opinion and I wouldn't recommend Vi***i as you simply haven't got the same service or options.
But PLEASE PLEASE update those old templates! After all it's all about how out sites look and not about how many widgets we have.

I've just had a chance to try out the new beta weebly and I really love to be able to change the fonts! New fonts give the site a whole new look! I didn't get into the HTML editing. Frankly, HTML makes me go cross eyed! I agree with Marc that some new, updated themes would be great. The themes are nice for businesses, but there are SO many different applications for websites. There are many that are just for fun! We need some themes that POP! :) Get funky with them!! As always, the Weebly team are the best and you all are definitely moving in the right direction. Keep up the fantastic work!

Well, as many others, I love Weebly. I'm a new user and have been waiting for this feature before I publish. However, as you know, it has bugs, and I have yet to receive a fix for the ones I wrote you about.

First suggestion: Help for the beta version should come more quickly.

Second suggestion: Font style should be able to be changed paragraph by paragraph, and word by word. As it is now, only groups can be changed.

Third suggestion: BACKGROUNDS should be able to be substituted from uploaded user graphics, like a star field, which is what I want to do.

With these last two adjustments, the Weebly templates would be even more unique from site to site.

This is very good !
It now takes 1 sec to change the title color and the font, compared to playing with the code ("playing" because I am not a programmer) :-)

I like the new changes but please please please can we have some new and more updated templates as they are very sparse. Particularly wide style as there is such a limited choice and in my view the only thing that stops this from being a market leader.

This is nice and pretty, but how about making something that will really help us out like tables, better seo options, library, copy elements to other pages and not just move, 3 column layout, side navigation that will show on all pages. I wish there was a way to make a custom theme without CSS. I dont understand it and would like a way to make that easier. It would be nice to have a way to put a live chat on the website. It would be much appriciated!!!

I would like to be able to have users post comments on pictures in flikr strait from the users website.
That is a little far, but if you could do that it would generate lots of users for weebly.
I personally love weebly, it blows freewebs, and bravenet out of the water.
